  The Christmas Scriptures

Around Christmas time the secular world thinks of gifts and decorations and the Christian world thinks of the birth of baby Jesus. The Bible teaches us that there is much more to all those things than what we celebrate. Ready to find out? Click on any link below to listen to a message.

1. GOD'S SOVEREIGNTY -- (JEREMIAH 1:4-10) (12/7/2008) -- God is sovereign. That is a word that is not used very often any more in churches to describe God. But God is called sovereign almost 300 times in the Bible. So He must be sovereign. What God has said He will bring about. What He plans He will do.

2. GOD'S PROPHECY -- (MALACHI 4:4-6) (12/14/2008) -- The Messiah will be come as a child born. This was prophesied by God through Isaiah approximately 700 years before the event occurs. The Messiah will be born of a virgin. This was prophesied by God through Isaiah approximately 700 years before the event occurs. The Messiah will be born in Bethlehem. This was prophesied by God through Micah approximately 700 years before the event occurs. God will fulfill the predictions of His messengers.

3. GOD'S CHOSEN -- (LUKE 2:25-35) (12/21/2008) -- Noah was chosen. Abraham was chosen. Jacob was chosen over Esau. Moses was chosen to deliver the Israelites out of bondage. The Pharaoh of the Exodus was chosen to be used by God in a wrathful way to show God's power. Joshua was chosen to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land. God chose Saul as the first king of Israel. Then God chose David the youngest of the children of Jesse. Cyrus was chosen by God as the king who would allow the Jews to return to Jerusalem from their exile. Paul was knocked off his horse by God to be the light of salvation unto the Gentiles. The list goes on and on. You can't escape it.

COUNT THE COST
Christianity has a cost. To be a Christian are you willing to count that cost and then pay that cost? If Jesus is truly everything to you, you will. This series looks at "counting the cost" of discipleship through the eyes of an unbeliever who finds something refreshingly different in the life of a Christian friend. (7 messages)

DISPUTABLE MATTERS
Sin is clearly defined in the Bible. But what about issues such as food, drink, recreation, television, movies, books, magazines, sports, Sunday activities, cards, games, dancing, smoking, hairstyles, clothing styles, music styles, Christmas trees, etc. Sinful or not? (3 messages)

DIVINE ELECTION
There are theological differences and beliefs among believers. But there is one issue that has the potential to cause some very bad feelings among believers or stimulate the greatest comfort and inward peace to the individual believer. And that issue is how you got saved. (5 messages)
