  Mormonism: Cult or Christian?

The Mormon Church is the second-fastest growing church in the United States. Today the Mormon Church has over 14 million members with approximately 300,000 new members added each year. There are usually around 52,000 Mormon missionaries working around the world at any one time. Most are under the age of 25. The church has rules for living such as no coffee, no caffeine, no alcohol, no smoking or tobacco, no sex before marriage, and no swearing or profanity. They have strong finances, strong leadership, enthusiastic missionaries; they promote family values, and condone good moral character. How could something like this be a cult? Maybe they are Christians just like us. Click on any link below to listen to a message.

1. WHAT IS A CULT? -- (2CORINTHIANS 11:3,4,13-15) (11/6/2011) -- Webster defines the word "cult" as "a religion regarded as unorthodox or spurious." When a Christian speaks of another religion or faith as a cult, they mean groups which they believe do not hold to orthodox (or Biblical) Christian views. There are 5 major characteristics that define a cult in the eyes of a true Christian. Listen and find out what they are!

2. HOW IT GOT STARTED -- (2CORINTHIANS 11:3,4,13-15) (11/13/2011) -- In 1820 a 14 year-old boy in western New York named Joseph Smith was spurred by a Christian revival to pray to God for guidance as to which church was true. In answer to his prayers he was visited by God the Father and God the Son, two separate beings, who told him to join no church because all the churches at that time were false, and that he, Joseph, would bring forth the true church. You really must hear the rest of this story.

3. YOU ARE WHAT YOU BELIEVE -- (JOHN 17:1-5) (11/20/2011) -- To have eternal life, one must know the one true God and Jesus Christ. This fact is the foundation of true Christianity. So who is the true God and who is the true Jesus? A person will answer that question depending on what they believe about God and about Jesus. You are what you believe.
